After the French football club Toulouse FC finished fourth in the 1985-86 season, the club was allowed to participate in the UEFA Cup in the 1986-1987 season. In the first round, Napoli was knocked out of the tournament with Diego Maradona, but in the second round Spartak Moscow was a size too big. This season Toulouse FC finished in a nice third place in the French competition and because of this the club was allowed to participate in the UEFA Cup again the following year.
