In 1955 Munsingwear, a Minneapolis underwear and military apparel company, introduced the United States' first true golf shirt: the Original Penguin. The now famous Original Penguin logo has an interesting history. The stuffed penguin of one of the employees became the official mascot and logo of the golf shirts. The first shirt – the 1955 – became an instant classic in the golf world. A special piece of fabric on the forearm prevented damage, even on the most enthusiastic swings. In the past, the Original Penguin by Munsingwear was worn by golf professionals like Arnold Palmer and amateurs like Bob Hope, Bing Crosby and Richard Nixon. Even today, the most popular movie stars and musicians from the US are regularly seen in the shirts with the penguin on the chest.
