The 1978 FIFA World Cup was the eleventh edition and was held in Argentina. The tournament lasted from Sunday 1 June to 25 June 1978. A total of 16 countries took part in the tournament and football was played in 6 different host cities. Argentina won the World Cup in their own country by winning 1-3 in the final after extra time against the Netherlands. The top scorer of the tournament was the Argentinian Mario Kempes, the star player of Argentina was also named the best player.
