During the 1982 FIFA World Cup, England started strongly in a group with France, Czechoslovakia and Kuwait. In the opening match, Robson scored after just 25 seconds, marking England’s first goal of the tournament. The match ended in a 3-1 victory. England also won their second and third matches against Czechoslovakia 2-0 and Kuwait 1-0. In the second round, England drew twice against Germany and Spain, both matches finishing 0-0, which resulted in elimination.
